‘An old jazz player returns late from his local club. A new singer there has reminded him a little of the great Billie Holiday. He wipes the grime of the night from his neck and throws down his neckerchief and puts on a Billie Holiday album, pouring himself a whiskey. Some many cigarettes and whiskies later, he goes to bed, but not before propping up the album cover so he can see the picture of Billie’s face. He puts down the whisky bottle and glass and then after some reflection, he drops a corsage in front of it (left the previous night by a lover), creating a small shrine to her spirit.’
I think I have created an interesting still life for the next exercises. I did some prep fast sketches in pencil, ink and charcoal.
